The Gospel Express With Morgan Dukes
If you don’t know Morgan Dukes, by now you are missing out. It has been said that when she walks into a room or opens the mic, immediately the Holy Spirit can be felt throughout the place. Her personality radiates of joy and charm. So who is Morgan Dukes? Well, she was born in the town of Laurel, Mississippi, and at the age of five, moved to the outlining countryside known as Sandersville, Mississippi where her grandparents raised her.
As a young girl Morgan loved watching various television commentators and actors, and then she would imagine that being her one day. She loved listening to her transistor radio, and she would sing the songs and dance to the music. She has always used her creative imagination, and back then she would dream of having her own show. Morgan was intuitive and curious about how things work behind the scenes. That same curiosity would energize her determination to one day dive into the profession of TV and radio. That day shortly followed, and she had the chance to experience both radio and TV up close and in person. At that point, the dream was cemented. For Radio, she had the opportunity to go live remote at a local grocery store. For TV, she was selected to be a teen commentator for a local commercial featuring youth from the area.
This was the beginning of her journey into radio. Upon finishing the shooting of the TV commercial which took place during her junior year of high school, she was hooked. She wanted to be a broadcaster. So, Morgan attended the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg and started in one of the best broadcasting programs around.
Many years later into this journey, Gospel music was something that entered Morgan’s life. She did not begin her career in gospel music, but was directed there at the right time through prayer and supplication.
Her true transition from Urban Music Genre to Gospel Music began in 1997, one year after she married her husband Pastor Jerome Dukes. When they married in 1996, she was on the air at WALR (Kiss 104), playing Urban music while he was preaching the gospel all over the nation. She knew clearly whom she had married but God had not spoken for her to quit her job. So they began to pray together and God answered their prayers.
Her program director, Kris McClendon, was making his final transition from this earth, and he asked her to begin playing gospel music from 5-6 am without telling the audience what was happening. “Just play the music and get their response.” They LOVED it! So, the next week, they extended it from 4-6 am, gave it the name “Morning Inspirations.” Morgan Dukes was officially launched into Gospel Radio. In 1997 Morgan became fully vested in Gospel Music, and she was now the midday host, and Music Director at GLORY 1340. Soon after, Morgan began working with SGN in the same capacities. Morgan has known God since she was a very young girl and has always known that He has had his hand upon her. But, she is so grateful that God chose her, a little girl from Mississippi, to tell His story and spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. Daily she talks to people all across the world who find joy from what God has gifted her to do.
